LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Collegiate Women Sports Award presented by Honda went to Iowa basketball’s Caitlin Clark Monday evening in a nationally televised show on CBS Sports Network. She is the second consecutive basketball player to receive the honor, as South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston claimed the 2022 Honda Cup as the nation’s top collegiate female athlete.
The Collegiate Women Sports Award brings the 12 student-athlete who represent the top in NCAA-sanctioned sport to Los Angeles. A pair of the dozen Honda Sport Award winners were Gators and both were in Los Angeles for Monday’s award show. Florida’s duo – Jasmine Moore (track & field) and Trinity Thomas (gymnastics) – marked the fourth time the University of Florida had two or more sport award winners.
The 12 are narrowed to three finalists. This year, the three finalists were: Clark, Logan Eggleston (Texas/volleyball) and Rose Zhang (Stanford/golf).
Florida is No. 3 all-time with 28 Honda Award recipients. Gator winners in eight sports leads all programs (Texas and UCLA each with winners in seven different sports).

One Gator has twice been named the top collegiate female athlete of the year. Gator Great swimmer Tracy Caulkins shared the 1983-84 Broderick Cup (previous name of award) with Southern California’s Cheryl Miller and won as a freshman in 1981-82.
How the Two Gators got to L.A.:
After the conclusion of each of the 12 recognized sport seasons, the Honda Sport Award sends a ballot with four sport finalists to administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.
Moore joins Yanis David<https://floridagators.com/sports/track-and-field/roster/yanis-david/11403> (2019) as the two Gators to win the Honda Award for track & field.
A Gator gymnast has claimed the Honda Award seven of the last 12 years. Gator Greats Bridget Sloan<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-gymnastics/roster/bridget-sloan/5091> (2013, 2016), Kytra Hunter<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-gymnastics/roster/kytra-hunter/2546> (2012, 2015), Alex McMurtry<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-gymnastics/roster/alex-mcmurtry/10695> (2017) and Thomas (2022, 2023) also received the Honda Award for gymnastics.
