Florida Smashes School Records and Sets Top-10 Marks at the Tyson and David Hemery Valentine Invitationals

This weekend Florida broke three school records and finished with a total of 12 top-10 times/marks in school history

FAYETTEVILLE, AR. – The Florida Gators men’s and women’s track teams took part in meets in both Boston and Fayetteville this weekend and despite being states apart, the results were the same. Florida broke three school records and set nine other top-10 school marks.

The Gators broke school records in the women’s 800m (Imogen Barrett, 2:01.23), men’s 800m (Sam Austin, 1:46.06), and women’s 200m (Talitha Diggs, 22.61). In addition to the three school records, Florida athletes set top-10 times and marks in a variety of events.

In the women’s 60m hurdles Imani Carothers (8.15) ran the third fastest time in school history. Gabrielle Wilkinson finished with the seventh fastest women’s mile in school history (4:38.43) at the meet in Boston. In her collegiate debut, Alida Van Daalen,(17.53m/57’6.25″) finished with the fifth best indoor shot-put mark in school history. The men’s 200m saw both Robert Gregory (20.571) and Jacory Patterson (20.576) finish with the seventh and eighth best time in school history respectively.

In the women’s 200m, along with Diggs school record, Kynnedy Flannel (23.05), Laila Owens (23.07), and Jasmine Montgomery (23.21) finished with the third, fourth, and seventh fastest times in school history in the event. Finally, in the men’s 4×400 relay, the team of Patterson, Bamidele, Powell, and Willie (3:02.18) finished with the third fastest time in school history in the event.

In total, Florida won seven events this weekend. The Gators took first in the women’s 60m (Talitha Diggs) and triple jump (Jasmine Moore). On the men’s side Malcolm Clemons (long jump invitational), Kurt Powdar (60m hurdles), Robert Gregory (200m), Sam Austin (800m), and the Florida “A” 4x400m relay team claimed the titles.

Next up, the Gators conclude the regular season by taking part in the Florida University Last Chance Meet in Gainesville on Thursday February 16th. The meet will take place at the new Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track at the Alachua County Sports Complex.

Saturday’s Finals Recap

High Jump

Men- Corvell Todd finished third in his second competition as a Gator. His mark of 2.15m/7’0.5″ sits just outside of the top-10 in school history in the event.

Women- After participating in the women’s long jump invitational on Friday and taking third behind teammate Jasmine Moore, Claire Bryant took to the air again in the high jump. She finished tenth with a top mark of 1.74m/5’8.5″.

Shot Put

Men- For the third straight competition Logan Montgomery has been the leading male thrower for the Gators. Montgomery has steadily gotten better as the season has progressed. After making his collegiate debut at the Clemson Invitational, he recorded a PR at the Razorback Invitational and then improved upon it today, finishing fifth with a new PR of 17.43m/57’2.25″. Calvin Bostic finished fourteenth (15.70m/51’6.25″).

Women- In her collegiate debut, Alida Van Daalen made her mark. The freshman finished second with a top mark of 17.53m/57’6.25″. Besides finishing second, Van Daalen’s mark is the fifth best in school history in the indoor shot put. Da’Moni Kelly finished 23rd with a personal best mark of 13.61m/44’8″.

Triple Jump

Men- Sean Dixon-Bodie continues his strong season in triple jump, putting up his mark of the season (16.55m/54’3.75″) on the way to a second-place finish. Malcolm Clemons (15.33m/50’3.5″) finished eighth and Michael Holloway II (15.18m/49’9.75″) finished tenth with a new indoor personal best mark.

Women- Jasmine Moore’s outstanding senior year continues as she places first (14.25m/46’9″) in the triple jump again.

200m

Men- In the second to last heat of the men’s 200m, Robert Gregory and Jacory Patterson faced off. The race was tight from the beginning with Gregory edging out Patterson by 0.005 seconds for the title. Gregory took first with a time of 20.571, an indoor personal best and the seventh fastest time in school history. Just behind him was Patterson whose time of 20.576 placed him second and was the eighth fastest time in school history. Ryan Willie rounded out the top three, finishing third (20.84) with a new indoor PR.

Women- The women’s 200m saw multiple records fall. Talitha Diggs (22.61) finished second and broke the school record in the indoor 200m event, but the records did not stop there. Kynnedy Flannel (23.05) finished third and ran the third fastest time in school history, Laila Owens (23.07) finished fourth and ran the fourth fastest time in school history, and Jasmine Montgomery (23.21) finished fifth and ran the seventh fastest time in school history. Ramiah Elliott (23.59) also finished with a personal best in the 200m.

800m

Men- Ryan Maseman (1:49.39) and Joe Wester (1:49.83) finished first and second respectively in the men’s 800m. Maseman’s time was a new personal best in the 800m. Wester was making his event debut. In total the Gators had five men finish in the top-15.

Men’s Invitational- Sam Austin was the lone Gator to run in the men’s 800m Invitational, blazing to a 1:46.06 time and first place finish. Austin’s time is a school record in the indoor 800m, the fastest time in the country so far this year, and a new PR.

Mile

Men-In his event debut, Jonathan Pitchford took home third in the men’s mile (4:06.39). Teammate Reed Legg also finished in the top-10. He crossed tenth with a time of 4:10.26.

4x400m Relay

Men-Another event and another top-10 school time. The Florida relay team of Patterson, Bamidele, Powell, and Willie (3:02.18) finished first at the Tyson Invitational and ran the third fastest time in school history in the 4x400m.

Women- In the final event of the day, the women’s 4x400m relay team of Owens, Lester, Elliott, and Watson finished third with a time of 3:31.76.
