Alfonso Mestre, Skip Donald, and Joshua Liendo all claim weekly conference honors.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the fourth time this season, and second consecutive week, the No. 3/11 Florida Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving team claimed three SEC weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Alfonso Mestre was named SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Joshua Liendo was tabbed SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week. Skip Donald earned SEC Men’s Co-Diver of the Week, giving him back-to-back weeks winning the award. The Gators swept No. 13/7 Tennessee last Saturday.
Mestre, a five-time All-American, secured SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week following wins in the 500 free and 1000 free over No. 13 Tennessee. Mestre posted a B-cut time of 4:21.16 in the 500 free, over three seconds ahead of the rest of the field, and touched the wall in 9:04.97 in the 1000 free.
Liendo notched his third weekly conference honor of the season (SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week – 9/27, SEC Co-Men’s Freshman of the Week – 10/25). The Canadian Olympian swam a B-cut 19.34 in the 50 free to win the event, while also being a member of the winning 400 free relay team.
For the second week in a row, Skip Donald earned conference honors, being named the SEC Co-Men’s Diver of the Week. Donald won the 1-meter diving with a 349.12, while placing third in the 3-meter diving despite a score of 384.83. Florida divers have won conference weekly honors four times this season.
The Gators continue the 2022-23 season at the Georgia Invite from Nov. 17-19 in Athens, Ga.
