SUNRISE, Fla. – In celebration of Black History Month, the Florida Panthers announced today the launch of ‘28 Days of Black Excellence’ recognizing South Florida residents who are making an impactful difference in the local community.

From Black business owners to teachers, athletes, and healthcare workers, honorees’ stories and achievements will be shared daily throughout the month of February at FloridaPanthers.com and on social media @FlaPanthers and @FlaPanthersCARE.

“As an organization that is committed to fostering diversity and celebrating diverse voices, we are proud to utilize our platform to share and amplify these important stories of Black excellence in our community,” said Florida Panthers President and CEO Matt Caldwell. “Each story shared brings a new opportunity to celebrate the positive impact these South Floridians are making in their local communities and beyond.”

“Building on our success of last year’s roundtable series, our ‘28 Days of Excellence’ initiative aims to bring the richness of Black expression, experience and achievement to the forefront of the conversation during this Black History Month across an even wider audience,” said Florida Panthers Assistant General Manager Brett Peterson

First to be recognized as part of the Panthers ‘28 Days of Black Excellence’ is Urban League Broward President & CEO Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh. Currently the only female CEO of an Urban League affiliate in Florida, Dr. Smith-Baugh is on a task force committed to bring racial equality training to CEOs in Broward County. More information about Dr. Smith-Baugh and her efforts in the community can be found here.

On Thursday, February 24th, the Panthers will recognize ‘28 Days of Black Excellence’ honorees during the team’s Black History Night at FLA Live Arena.  Fans in attendance can also enjoy pregame and intermission performances by Florida Memorial University’s Marching Band and National Panhellenic Council (NPHC) Divine Nine Step Teams, as well as a special national anthem performance by South Florida’s premier saxophonist, Jon Saxx, before the Panthers face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7 p.m. ET.

The National Hockey League’s Black Hockey History Tour bus will stop in South Florida on March 7 & 8 for the community to enjoy.
