SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Gerry Mayhew on a one-year, two-way contract.
Mayhew, 30, skated in 69 games throughout the 2022-23 season with the Panthers American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Charlotte Checkers. He amassed 44 points (24-20-44), tied for first among Checkers skaters in goals (24) and led the team in powerplay goals (8).
The 5-foot-9, 161-pound native of Wyandotte, MI., has played in 57 career NHL games with the Minnesota Wild (2019-20 to 2020-21), Philadelphia Flyers (2021-22) and Anaheim Ducks (2021-22).
Skating in 321 AHL games, Mayhew collected 238 points (130-108-238) between the Iowa Wild (2016-17 to 2020-21), Lehigh Valley Phantoms (2021-22) and Charlotte Checkers (2022-23). Since 2018-19, Mayhew ranks third among all AHL skaters in goals (108). Following the 2019-20 season with Iowa, Mayhew was named the recipient of the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL’s Most Valuable Player and the Willie Marshall Award as the league’s top goal scorer. He was also named to the AHL Second All-Star Team that season.
Undrafted, Mayhew skated four seasons with Ferris State University (2013-14 to 2016-17), serving as an assistant captain in his senior year. In 150 NCAA appearances, Mayhew registered 119 points (52-67-119) and helped Ferris State win the WCHA championship in 2015-16.
