Lainy Kruger and Maria Garcia represent Florida in league’s first weekly honors of 2025 season.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Following their performances in the women’s season-opening win at Indiana, Florida’s Lainy Kruger and Maria Garcia were recognized on Tuesday as part of the Southeastern Conference’s first weekly awards of the season.
Kruger, a junior from Taylor Mill, Kentucky, was named SEC Co-Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while Garcia, a freshman from Nuevo Leon, Mexico, earned SEC Women’s Diver of the Week. The honors are the first career weekly accolade for both Gators.
SEC Women’s Co-Swimmer of the Week – Lainy Kruger
Kruger contributed a team-high 18 points to Florida’s total score with three first-place finishes. She claimed individual wins in the 200-yard free (1:48.37) and 200-yard fly (1:59.44), while anchoring the 400-yard free relay with a 49.45 split en route to a first-place finish (3:23.90).
SEC Women’s Diver of the Week – Maria Garcia
In her collegiate debut, Garcia recorded top-two finishes in both diving events, including a first-place finish on the 3-meter board with a career-best 308.48. The freshman also posted career-best 254.78 on the 1-meter to earn second place.

The Gators return to Gainesville on Friday, Oct. 10 to host the Virginia Cavaliers in a dual meet at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center Natatorium. Both swimming and diving events will take place throughout the day, beginning with the first swimming session at 10:00 AM ET. Florida diving will follow at 12:30 PM ET and the second swimming session will resume at 4:00 PM to wrap up the meet.
