BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic football will travel to East Hartford, Connecticut this week, where the Owls will face the University of Connecticut at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. Kickoff is set for 7 pm. for the game that CBS Sports Network will broadcast.
The two teams met just once, with the Huskies winning the 2002 game by a 61-14 score. The game time temperature for the South Florida fledgling program was 37 degrees. Garrett Jahn, the program’s inaugural starting quarterback, determined by a coin toss in then Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger’s office, led FAU’s two scoring drives. The first culminated with a 22-yard pass to Matt Prudenti, and the second was an 11-yard connection to Thomas Parker.
On offense, the Owls are led by QB Cam Fancher, who has completed 51 of his 88 passes on the year for 450 yards and two touchdowns. Fancher, a multi-threat quarterback, also leads the team in yards gained but is second in net yards behind Zuberi Mobley, who has carried the ball 33 times for a team-leading 178 net yards. Fancher contributes an average of 47.0 yards per game on the ground, while CJ Campbell Jr. is third with 110 yards. All three have found the end zone, with Mobley crossing the plane a team-leading three times, all last week versus FIU. Omari Hayes is the fourth Owl to record a carry in 2024, but Hayes has been Fancher’s primary target with a team-high ten receptions for 132 yards. Hayes tops a list of 10 who have a minimum of one reception on the year.
Defensively, the Owls are led by Maryland native Jackson Ambush. The linebacker has 21 total tackles, has added a tackle for a loss assist, and has a pass breakup. True freshman safety CJ Heard follows him. Heard is the national true freshman leader in total tackles with 20, and the ball hawk has two fumble recoveries and is credited with a forced fumble. Fellow safety Jayden Williams has 18 tackles. Linebacker Eddie Williams has added 15, including a team-leading 1.5 tackles for a loss. Desmond Tisdol has added 13, while “Buggs” Kahzir Brown and Chris Jones have added 12 each to round out the double-digit tacklers.
