FAU Earns United Soccer Coaches Academic Award

United Soccer Coaches Release

KANSAS CITY
– Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer has been named to the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award. The Owls achieved a 3.45 team GPA in the 2021-22 academic year.

GETTING IT DONE IN THE CLASSROOM

In order to qualify for the academic honor, a team must hold at least a 3.0 GPA in the academic year. The standard of excellence in the classroom continues with the FAU women’s soccer program, as this is the Owls’ seventh consecutive United Soccer Coaches Academic Award. In total, 488 NCAA Division I women’s soccer programs earned this year’s academic honor.

“We are very excited to be recognized by the United Soccer Coaches for our young ladies’ work in the classroom,” said head coach Patrick Baker. “Many people see us play throughout the season, but very few realize how hard our players work in the classroom year round. The award reflects the true dedication of a student-athlete, and we are pleased to have achieved this recognition for Florida Atlantic University.”

Under Baker’s guidance, the Owls have maintained success in the classroom. Earlier this month, FAU was named to the Conference USA Academic Excellence Award with the top women’s soccer team GPA in C-USA.

The Owls have an active streak of nine seasons of having at least one student-athlete earn All-Conference USA Academic honors. Emma Grissom, a 2021 graduate, extended FAU’s streak with a 3.75 GPA. In the spring 2022 semester, FAU had 24 student-athletes with at least a 3.0 GPA, 12 student-athletes on the Dean’s List and three on the President’s List.
