Earthfest and Arbor Day Celebration at Sportsplex Park

I attended this event in Coral Springs on Saturday morning

From David Volz

The City of Coral Springs hosted an Earthfest and Arbor Day Celebration at Sportsplex Park. Those who who came could see various community and environmental groups. “We are celebrating Earthday and we are giving away plants to residents. We want to help the environment. We gave away about 500 to 600 plants today,” said Casey Lee of Coral Springs. “Because of COVID we moved to the Sportsplex where there is more open space.”

Robin Reccassina of the Sawgrass Nature Center was encouraging people to visit their organization which provides care for native wildlife and offers camp programs for young people. “We will have a nine week summer camp and we teach young people all about the animals that live in South Florida,” she said. The camp begins on June 14. Emily McCoy, a Sawgrass camp counselor participated in the event.

Judi Gulko of the Rotary Community Garden and Food Forest of Coral Springs participated in the event. “We want to encourage people to garden,” she said.

Debbie Weatherly of the Garden Club of Coral Springs said, “This is a fun community event and it brings people to together to learn more about plants. It is good that we can have an event like this. It is good that we can give people plants to take home,” said Weatherly.

Sandy Knebel of the Garden Club enjoyed participating in the event and was glad to see people taking plants home.
