Cooley, Schanuel Earn C-USA Academic Honors

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Conference USA announced its academic awards on Monday and Florida Atlantic University baseball student-athletes Hunter Cooley and Nolan Schanuel have both been named to the league’s honor roll. The annual C-USA All-Academic baseball squad consists of 11 student-athletes not to be limited by position. Nominees must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, at least a sophomore standing and be a starter or key reserve.

Cooley and Schanuel join an exclusive list of FAU baseball standouts who have earned Academic All-Conference honors in C-USA:

  • 2021 – Mitchell Hartigan
  • 2017 – Austin Langham
  • 2016 – Brett Lashley
  • 2015 – Lashley and John Sebelle
  • 2014 – Tyler Rocklein

Cooley has achieved a plethora of accomplishments on and off the field during the past four years. In April, he was named as the FAU Male Student-Athlete of the Year. The Vero Beach native has maintained a 3.83 cumulative GPA and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Corrections this past fall. Currently, Cooley is pursuing his master’s degree in criminology. He’s earned a spot on the FAU Dean’s List (top 3% of college) and President’s List (4.0 GPA) twice.

On the field, Cooley has been the Owls’ Friday night starter all season long. He racked up an 8-4 record in the regular season and led C-USA with 98 innings pitched.

Schanuel has had another standout year on the field and now adds an academic honor to his already impressive résumé. The Boynton Beach native holds a 3.68 cumulative GPA in Business.

Still in just his second year, Schanuel has started all 110 games in his career so far. He led the Owls with a .372 average in the regular season and finished third in home runs (14) and RBI (53). The former standout at Park Vista HS was named as a Preseason All-American in January.
