SARASOTA, Fla. – For the first time in conference history, a sudden-death playoff was needed to determine the 2025 American Men’s Golf Champion, with the Charlotte 49ers coming out on top to defeat South Floridan after two rounds of playoffs. It marks the first American Men’s Golf Championship for the 49ers. South Florida’s Jake Peacock became the first player to repeat as The American Individual Champion, shooting 14-under 202 over 54 holes.
The average score over the final day was 71.02 over 55 rounds. Over the three days, the average score was 71.78 for the athletes. Twenty-six players shot under par for 54 holes. Wichita State’s Jose Ramirez finished in second place with a score of 12-under 204.
The 49ers shot a round-low 14-under 274 to come back and tie the Bulls at 35-under 829 over 54 holes. The 35-under par is the lowest team score at an American Championship. After a first-round playoff ending in a tie, Charlotte defeated the Bulls by three strokes to clinch the championship in the second round of the playoff. Seb Cave led the 49ers, shooting 11-under 205 over three rounds.
The Bulls shot 13-under 275 in the third round and finished shooting 35-under 829 over 54 holes. Three players shot 10-under par or better, including Peacock. Shubham Jaglan and Wilhelm Ryding both shot 10-under 206 to finish tied for fourth place overall.
North Texas finished in third place after shooting 11-under for the final round to improve their three-round score to 19-under 845. They were led by Blake Keen, who finished tied for 4th place with 10-under 206.
Memphis finished in fourth place shooting a team score of 18-under 846 through 54 holes. Andrew Baucum led the Tigers with a low-score of 7-under 209, while Cian O’Connor and Diego Lourenco both shot 6-under 210.
East Carolina rounded out the top five with a team score of 16-under 848. Philip Bondestad had a low score for the Pirates at 7-under 209, while Holden Rucker sat at 5-under 211, including an albatross on hole 11 in round three.
Other top ten individual finishers were Charlotte’s Daniel Boone (7th place; 9-under 207), North Texas’ Alex Huang (8th place; 8-under 208), Florida Atlantic’s Biagio Gagliardi (8th place; 8-under 208) and Charlotte’s Justin Matthews (8th place; 8-under 208).
