The Broward County School District hired nearly 800 people during a career fair at Western High School. The school district had about 1,200 openings and needed 433 teachers. About 2,000 came to the career event. There were openings for teachers, teacher assistants, guidance counselors, bus drivers, custodians, office personnel and other positions.
Coral Springs Principal Vivian Suarez said she saw some good candidates and that Coral Springs has some strong candidates who will be working for the school this fall.
Dr. Claire Norris, assistant principal at Olsen Middle School was pleased to see people who wanted to work for her school. “We had some great candidates today,” she said.
Sean Curran, principal of Everglades High School said, “We have hired some good people for the upcoming year and I am looking forward to this school year.”
Broward Teachers Union President Ana Fusco said more people might apply if the pay was higher for teachers. She said that the cost of living is very high for people who must live on a teacher’s salary. The district hired 213 teachers at the event.
Broward School District Superintendent Vickie Clark was pleased to see people coming to the fair to seek jobs.
