4/12/2024 | Baseball | Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – Florida Atlantic baseball (19-12, 6-4, AAC) defeated Wichita State (19-16, 5-5 AAC) 4-2 in American Conference play on Friday night. The Owls will have an opportunity to win the series on Saturday afternoon. THE BEGINNING The Owls opened the scoring in the fourth inning. After a leadoff single by Patrick Ward, John Schroeder launched his fifth home run of the season over the scoreboard in left field, onto the adjacent freeway. C.J. Williams allowed five hits in five scoreless innings before running into a jam in the sixth. After the Shockers got on the board with one out in the frame, Steven Andrews entered from the bullpen and limited the damage to a tie game. THE TURNING POINT The tie didn’t last long though. Andrew McKenna led off the seventh with a double and eventually scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Spencer Rich. Schroeder added some padding to the lead in the eighth. After lining the first pitch he saw home run distance but just outside the left field foul pole, Schroeder straightened out a 3-2 pitch later in the bat and deposited it into the bleachers for his second homer of the night. THE FINISH Andrews gave way to Danny Trehey in the ninth and the Kansas native made quick work of the Shockers to record the save.
