4/14/2024 | Baseball | Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – Florida Atlantic baseball dropped the series finale 10-5 against Wichita State on Sunday afternoon. The game was called in the bottom of the eighth inning due to a travel deadline for the Owls. THE BEGINNING Wichta State opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the third. They would add a grand slam in the fifth to make it a 7-0 lead. THE TURNING POINT The Owls chipped away, first with a run in the sixth and then four in the seventh. Jalen DeBose and Spencer Rich logged RBI singles. Patrick Ward and John Schroeder each drew bases loaded walks. The Owls missed an opportunity for even more damage though, leaving the bases loaded. Wichita State came back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to put it out of reach for good. THE FINISH After the Owls failed to score in the top of the eighth inning, the game was ended with one out in the eighth inning due to AAC’s mandated rule of no new inning beginning after 4:30 p.m. on a Sunday (otherwise known as the getaway rule). THE BATS The Owls finished with nine hits led by two from Ward. The sophomore reached base five times with two singles and three walks.Jalen DeBose finished 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. THE ARMS Trey Beard started and allowed seven runs (six earned) in 4.2 innings. He struck out four and walked four.Dawson Ball followed with an inning and a third WHAT’S NEXT The Owls visit FIU on Tuesday night in non-conference play and return home next Friday to start a weekend series against Tulane.
