5/16/2024 | Baseball | Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball could not slow down a torrid UTSA offense on Thursday night, falling 14-1 in seven innings. THE BEGINNING UTSA scored five runs off FAU ace C.J. Williams in the top of the first inning. The Owls had a chance to turn a double play on the second batter of the game but a costly error on a hard-hit ball served as the first domino in a long night for the Owls. Two singles and three walks followed – two of which occurred with the bases loaded – to produce a big inning for the visitors. THE TURNING POINT/THE FINISH Jalen DeBose led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer but that was where the FAU offense ended for the night. UTSA scored two in the second and one in the third. If it wasn’t already broken open at that point, six runs in the top of the fifth sealed the deal. QUOTABLE Head coach John McCormack “They beat us in every facet of the game. It’s tough. We knew it would be a tough assignment for C.J. but we have to make that play in the first. They just rolled from there. Offensively we didn’t do much. Back at it tomorrow.” THE BATS The Owls finished with four hits. In addition to DeBose’s home run, Christian Adams added two singles and Daulton Frank doubled. THE ARMS Williams was charged with eight runs, four of which were earned, in four innings. He struck out three and walked three. After Dawson Ball was hit around for six runs in the fifth, Ben Gilbert and Kyle Beaty held UTSA scoreless in the sixth and seventh. WHAT’S NEXT The Owls will try to even the series on Friday at 6:30 p.m. THE TICKETS To purchase FAU tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or click HERE.
