Owls Complete Sweep of Wichita State4/19/2025 | Baseball | Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball defeated Wichita State, 7-4, on Saturday afternoon to finish a three-game sweep. The Owls (27-12) improved to 9-6 in the American Athletic Conference while the Shockers (12-27) dropped to 4-11 in league play. THE BEGINNING Florida Atlantic freshman James Litman delivered one of his best starts of the season on the mound, not allowing his first hit until there were two outs in the fourth inning.Meanwhile, the FAU offense handled business with two runs in the third and another in the fifth. A bases-loaded walk drawn by John Martinez and a sacrifice fly by John Schroeder opened the scoring in the third. In the fifth, Martinez found unmanned territory in shallow centerfield and wound up with an RBI double as Brando Leroux came around to score. TURNING POINT Litman departed after 5.1 innings of work and the Shockers got on the board with two hits. Ryan Buckler and Max Martzolf combined to escape the inning with a 3-1 FAU lead still intact.Wichita State threatened again in the seventh. This time, two singles and a walk loaded the bases before redshirt-freshman Kide Adetuyi extinguished the fire with a ground out and a fly out. THE FINISH The Owls pulled away for good in the bottom of the seventh. Martinez and Schoeder sparked the rally with back-to-back singles before a Shockers’ throwing error followed by an RBI groundout made it 5-1. Jake Millan tacked on one more with an RBI single to center field. The lead stretched to 7-1 in the eighth when Marshall Lipsey stole home as the WSU catcher threw the ball back to the pitcher. Wichita State’s Jordan Rogers lined an opposite-field two-run homer in the ninth before Steven Andrews finished the inning to complete the sweep. THE BATS Martinez led the offense with a 3-for-4 line, including two RBI. Millan and Leroux each finished 2-for-4. Lipsey drew two walks to extend his reached-base streak to 37 games. THE ARMS Litman completed his 5.1 innings with one run on three hits. He walked one and struck out two. The freshman improved his record to 3-1. The Owls used a total of seven relievers who combined to allow three runs on six hits in 3.2 innings.
