The Owls enter the weekend seventh in the American Conference standings. The top eight qualify for next week’s tournament in Clearwater. WEEKEND PROMOTIONS Prior to Friday’s game, this year’s 12 seniors will be recognized with a special presentation.Saturday is the regular season finale and it’s also Sam Drumheller Trading Card Giveaway Day presented by Robes Law Group. After the game, Drumheller and teammates will be available for autograph signings and all kids 12 and under can run the bases. OWLS IN REVIEW The Owls (25-25, 11-13 AAC) are coming off a 28-18 defeat in their final midweek non-conference game on Tuesday at Florida Gulf Coast. After jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first, FGCU responded with three in bottom of the first and then 14 in the bottom of the second. The Owls chipped away but the Eagles kept scoring. FAU trailed 23-18 going into the bottom of the seventh before FGCU scored five runs to end the game on the run rule.This weekend the Owls’ magic number to qualify for the AAC Tournament is two. Any combination of FAU wins and USF losses that adds up to two will do the job of getting the Owls to Clearwater next week. The Bulls play UAB at home. WHO’S HOT Christian Adams is 15-for-36 with 10 runs scored, and three doubles in the last 10 games. Jake Millan is 5-for-13 with two home runs and six RBI in the last five games. He hit a grand slam in the first inning on Tuesday. With his next trip to the mound, Sam Drumheller will break the program record for pitching appearances. Drumheller will become the first to pitch in 100 games. THE OPPONENT UTSA (30-21, 15-9 AAC) is still in contention to be regular season champions of the AAC. The Roadrunners begin the weekend just one game behind ECU and holding the tiebreaker over the Pirates. After back-to-back series losses, UTSA rebounded last week to take two of three from USF. OPPONENT HISTORY The Owls lead the all-time series, but UTSA has won the last four including a sweep in San Antonio last season. The Roadrunners also defeated the Owls in the 2022 CUSA Tournament.
