BOCA RATON, Fla. – With only three weekends remaining on the American Conference Baseball Schedule, Florida Atlantic and UAB begin a crucial three-game set on Friday night. The Owls enter the weekend in fourth in the AAC standings.
Please Note: due to graduation happening simultaneously with Friday’s game, normal baseball and softball parking will be affected. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and use the lot adjacent to the Tom Oxley Center (by the softball stadium).
WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
- Jeremiah’s Italian Ice will be dishing out free samples for National Italian Ice Day on Friday
- Star Wars “May the 4th” posters will be handed out on Saturday (limited quantities, while supplies last)
- Tiktok stars A.J. and Big Justice will be on hand on Saturday for photos and videos. Big Justice will also be on the field with the team for batting practice, the national anthem, and throughout the game as a bat boy. A.J. will be throwing out the first pitch.
- This week’s Robes Law Group Sunday Funday is also Cinco de Mayo, so Tequila Seltzers are 2 for $7. We’re also giving away limited-edition Christian Adams trading cards.
OWLS IN REVIEW
The Owls jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Florida on Tuesday, but the Gator bats ultimately proved too much to keep up with it. Five different Owls finished multi-hit games led by Andrew McKenna who posted a career high three hits (all singles). John Schroeder tripled and doubled. He also took a home run away from UF’s Jac Caglianone with a leaping catch at the wall. FAU outhit Florida 14-11 and had the bases loaded in the ninth before a double play ball ended the game.
WHO’S HOT
Christian Adams and John Schroeder are hitting .400 and .350, respectively, in the last 10 games. Adams homered twice last weekend at USF. Schroeder had three RBI on Tuesday at Florida.
C.J. Williams went six innings last Friday against USF in a no-decision. He did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. Williams has eight quality starts in 11 trips to the mound this season. He’s allowed more than two runs just twice.
Brandon Smith is expected to make his first weekend start on Saturday. In his last two midweek starts vs. FIU and Miami, he pitched a combined eight innings without allowing a run.
THE OPPONENT
At 7-11 in AAC play, UAB comes into the weekend in ninth place in the league standings. The Blazers have series wins over Tulane and Charlotte, both at home. Offensively, UAB does not generate their offense from the home run ball. They’ve hit just 29 all season. Junior outfielder Logan Braunschweig leads the way with a .327 average.
On the mound, senior Blayze Berry has a 2.71 ERA. He struck out nine against Charlotte last Friday and 12 earlier in the season against Wichita State.
OPPONENT HISTORY
The Owls took two of three from UAB last season in Birmingham. FAU leads the all-time series 18-13.
WHAT’S NEXT
The Owls sqaure up with FGCU for the first time this season in a Tuesday doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled 2 p.m at the FAU Baseball Stadium. The first game will be seven innings with the night cap set for nine.
