CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Miami Hurricanes right-handed pitcher Griffin Hugus was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round with the 91st overall pick of the 2025 MLB Draft.
Hugus made an immediate impact in his debut season with the Hurricanes, leading the pitching staff with 17 starts — the most of any pitcher on the roster.
Throughout the season, Hugus posted a 6-3 record and finished with a 3.78 ERA in 85.2 innings pitched. He allowed just 79 hits while striking out 87 batters and walking 28, limiting opposing hitters to a .247 batting average.
With the selection, Hugus became the 395th MLB Draft pick in Miami program history during the draft era, which began in 1965. He is the 14th Hurricane selected within the first five rounds over the past five years.
His contributions were instrumental in helping Miami earn its first NCAA Super Regional appearance since 2016.
