American Conference Women’s Basketball Release – January 16

RICE REMAINS LONE UNBEATEN

With South Florida’s win over UTSA and East Carolina’s win over Tulsa, Rice remains the only team in the American to not lose a conference game.  The Owls sit at 4-0 and travel to 4-1 North Texas on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET for a tough road test.

FREE POINTS

Three American teams are in the top 20 in multiple free throw categories. Rice is 2nd in the nation in free throw percentage (82%).  Tulsa ranks 17th in the nation in free throws made per game (16) while East Carolina is 20th in the nation in free throws made per game (15.8).

The Rice Owls are one of the hottest teams in the country right now, having won nine straight games with their last loss coming in November. Their winning streak is tied for the 11th longest in the nation.

North Texas’ Megan Nestor has been among the nation’s best in rebounding this season. She is 6th in the NCAA in total rebounds (202), while ranking 4th in rebounds per game (11.9) and leading the nation in offensive rebounds per game (4.8).

Two American teams rank in the top 100 of the NCAA NET rankings.  Rice leads the way with a NET ranking of 64, while South Florida is just behind at 69.
