American Conference Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, October 12.

Offensive Player of the Week

Jessica Ricks, Sr., OH, Charlotte

Ricks helped guide the 49ers to a pair of conference wins over Florida Atlantic and Temple, averaging 4.88 points per set while hitting .245 on the weekend.

Defensive Player of the Week

Annika Thompson, Sr., L, Charlotte

Thompson anchored the Charlotte defense with 5.50 digs per set in a pair of wins over Florida Atlantic and Temple.

Setter of the Week

Brayden Hipp, Sr., S, Tulsa

Hipp paced the Golden Hurricane with 11.17 assists per set, while Tulsa hit .353 as a team in a pair of sweeps over UAB and Memphis.

Freshman of the Week

Sydney Buchanan, Fr., OH, East Carolina

Buchanan averaged 4.67 points per set, while hitting .214 in a pair of matches. She added four assists and three aces.

Honorable Mention

Alexa Wasington, Sr., S, North Texas

Washington recorded the first triple-double in North Texas history with 15 kills, 26 assists, 24 digs in the 3-2 win over Tulane.

Kaia Mateo, Jr., S, Rice

Mateo paced the Owls with 10.33 assists per set in a pair of sweeps over South Florida and UTSA.

Arissa Smith, Jr., MB, Rice

Smith averaged 1.83 blocks per set and 2.50 kills per set in sweeps over South Florida and UTSA.

Laila Ivey, Jr., OH, South Florida

Ivey hit an impressive .522 from her outside hitter position in a pair of matches, finishing with just two errors on 46 attempts while recording 26 kills.

Raegan Richardson, So., S, South Florida

Richardson averaged 10.71 assists per set in a pair of matches against Rice and Tulane.

Olivia Vance, Jr., OH, Tulsa

Vance led Tulsa in scoring at 4.25 points per set in a pair sweeps over UAB and Memphis.
