American Conference Announces Men’s Soccer Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas  The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer awards for the week ending Sunday, October 5. 
Offensive Player of the Week

Gijs Hovius, Sr., F, Tulsa

Hovius lifted the Golden Hurricane to their first conference win of the season, scoring the game-winning goal in the 90th minute to defeat UAB 1-0.

Defensive Player of the Week

James Nyandjo, Fr., D, Charlotte

Nyandjo scored the game-winning goal for the 49ers over Memphis, while anchoring the defense that allowed just two shots on goal.


Goalkeeper of the Week

Jahiem Wickham, R-Jr., South Florida

Wickham recorded four saves in a 3-1 win over Western Michigan in non-conference action.

Freshman of the Week

James Nyandjo, Fr., D, Charlotte

Nyandjo anchored the 49er defense, allowing just two shots on goal, while scoring the game-winning goal.


Honorable Mention

Ben Fisher, R-Jr., M, Charlotte

Fisher scored a goal in 3-1 Charlotte win over Memphis.

Diarra Mamadou, Gr., F, Florida Atlantic

Mamadou scored the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win against Missouri State to keep the Owls unbeaten in the American.

Enrique Mutsoli, Sr., F, FIU

Mutsoli scored a goal in the 3-1 FIU win over Temple.

Fabio Bozesan, Gr., F, South Florida

Bozesan scored a goal and recorded an assist in the 3-1 win over Western Michigan.

Jake Reich, Fr., D, Tulsa

Reich recorded an assist on the game-winning goal against UAB, while allowing just two shots on goal against the Blazers.
