American Athletic Conference Volleyball Release – October 30

BATTLE AT THE TOP

Five teams enter the weekend within one game of each other for the top spot in The American. Rice (8-2) and South Florida (8-2) are tied for first, while East Carolina (7-3), Tulsa (7-3) and Wichita State (7-3) are all one match behind.  Tulsa and Wichita State will face each other in a home-and-home series this weekend.

EAST CAROLINA STREAKING

The East Carolina Pirates have entered a hot streak, winning their last four matches to pull within one game of first place. Three of the four wins have been sweeps, including back-to-back sweeps last weekend.

STOUT’S IMPRESSIVE WEEKEND

Wichita State’s redshirt senior middle blocker put on a show last weekend, leading the Shockers to a pair of wins by averaging 6.06 points per set, while adding 2.22 blocks per set on defense. She had a weekend high 22 kills in the win over UAB.

DISHING THEM OUT

The American features two setters that rank in the top 15 in the nation in assists per set.  Florida Atlantic’s Victoria Hensley leads the conference and is 10th in the NCAA with 10.80 assists per set, while South Florida’s Caroline Dykes is 13th in the NCAA with 10.69 assists per set.

LATEST RPI RANKINGS

The American has five schools ranked in the Top 100 of the latest edition of the NCAA RPI, led by Rice at 34.  South Florida stands at 69, followed by Wichita State (75), Tulsa (78) and East Carolina (97).
