Conference play begins on Tuesday, December 31, including North Texas hosting UAB at 4 p.m. Eastern on ESPNU.

IN THE RANKINGS

Memphis moved back into the rankings this week after defeating then-No. 16 Ole Miss, 87-70, on December 28. The Tigers are tabbed No. 21 in the latest AP Top 25 and No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

MAKING THEIR MARK IN NON-CONFERENCE

Through December 29, Memphis has eight wins that rank as Quad 1 or Quad 2 games in the NCAA’s NET Rankings, more than any other team in Division I. Auburn, Oregon and Marquette are tied for second in Division I with six Q1 or Q2 wins.

The Tigers’ average opponent NET rank is first in Division I and is the Tigers are fifth in NET non-conference strength of schedule.

Memphis has three wins over ranked opponents this season – against UConn in Hawaii on November 25, on the road at Clemson on December 14 and at home against Ole Miss on December 28.

CLAMPING DOWN ON DEFENSE

North Texas ranks third in Division I in scoring defense at 56.5 points per game allowed. The Mean Green lead The American in turnover margin at +4.3 per contest.

ON THE RUN

UAB leads Division I with 20.92 fastbreak points per game. UTSA is fifth with 18.17 points per game on the break.

POURING IN THE POINTS

UTSA’s Primo Spears ranks sixth in Division I with 22.3 points per game, while PJ Haggerty of Memphis is right behind in seventh at 22.1 points per contest.
