American Athletic Conference Football Saturday Night Notes | October 21, 2023

Tulane, SMU and UTSA sit atop the American Athletic Conference standings at 3-0 in league play through Week 8.

Tulane improved to 18-3 in the last two seasons with Saturday’s win against North Texas, trailing only Georgia (22) and Michigan (21) for the most wins nationally in the last two years.

Tulane’s defense has gone 28 games without allowing an individual 100-yard rusher .

 
SMU’s 55-0 win at Temple on Friday marked the first time that the Mustangs have won conference road games in consecutive weeks since 1984 (at Rice and Texas Tech).

SMU registered its second shutout of the season, marking the first time since 2012 that the Mustangs have blanked two opponents in a season.

UTSA has won 11 consecutive regular-season conference games. The Roadrunners improved to 25-3 against conference opponents under Jeff Traylor.

Rice’s 32-point win against Tulsa Thursday (42-10) was the Owls’ most lopsided victory in a conference game since a 52-14 decision against Louisiana Tech Nov. 14, 2013.

Rice’s three scoring drives in the first half against Tulsa totaled 2:17 in possession time. The Owls’ three second-half scoring drives totaled 21:29.

Memphis’ has scored at least 20 points in 21 consecutive games, which is the longest active streak nationally.

South Florida’s 24-21 win at UConn marked the Bulls first win in 25 games when they scored fewer than 30 points.

North Texas QB Chandler Rogers has thrown 216 consecutive passes without an interception. Rogers went 35-for-51 for 343 yards and two touchdowns in the Mean Green’s 35-28 loss at No. 23 Tulane.

North Texas WR Ja’Mori Maclin has at least one touchdown reception in seven consecutive games.

The visiting team won seven of the eight games involving American Athletic Conference teams in Week 8.
