American Athletic Conference Football Release – September 18

American Athletic Conference teams have four games on Saturday against teams ranked in this week’s Associated Press top 25 poll.

By day’s end on Saturday, teams from The American will have played a combined 12 games this season against teams ranked in this week’s top 25, including the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3-ranked teams.

Teams from The American play three of the four teams that reached the 2022-23 College Football Playoff. East Carolina faced Michigan Sept. 2., while UAB visits Georgia and SMU is at TCU on Sept. 23.

UAB’s game at No. 1 Georgia Saturday will be the Blazers’ first game in program history against the nation’s top-ranked team. It will be the second such game for an American Athletic Conference team after Cincinnati faced No. 1 Alabama in the 2021 College Football Playoff Semifinals.

Memphis’ game against Missouri Saturday is one of seven games on this week’s schedule between unbeaten teams. The others are Rutgers-Michigan, Colorado-Oregon, UCLA-Utah, BYU-Kansas, Oregon State-Washington State, Ohio State-Notre Dame and Iowa-Penn State.

Tulane has won six consecutive road games, which ranks as the third-longest active streak nationally (Georgia- 11, TCU-7).

South Florida’s attendance of 65,138 against Alabama last Saturday marked the fifth-largest home attendance in program history and the largest since a school-record 69,383 against Florida State in 2012. Tulsa’s sellout crowd of 30,855 against Oklahoma was the largest home attendance since the renovation of H.A. Chapman Stadium in 2008.

Rice has gone 5-1 in the month of September in the last two seasons.

South Florida S Daquan Evans enters Week 4 as the NCAA leader in tackles for loss (2.7 per game). Evans had three sacks in the Bulls’ game against Alabama in Week 3.

Navy S Rayuan Lane is the national FBS leader in passes defended (2.7 per game). Lane has two interceptions and six pass breakups.

Florida Atlantic WR Lajohntay Wester is averaging 10.0 receptions per game, ranking second among FBS players nationally.
