American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, January 7.

Player of the Week

Dazia Lawrence, R-Jr., G, Charlotte

Lawrence led the 49ers to a pair of wins over South Florida and UAB.  The redshirt-junior averaged 28 points, five assists, 5.5 rebounds and three steals.  In the overtime win over South Florida, Lawrence scored 26 points and dished out four assists.  She followed up with a 30 point, six assist performance at UAB.

Freshman of the Week

Karina Gordon, Fr., G, East Carolina

Gordon helped guide the Pirates to a 2-0 week with wins over UTSA and Memphis.  The guard averaged 15 points on the week, which included a 22-point outburst in the 82-54 win over the Roadrunners.

Weekly Honor Roll

Danae McNeal, Gr., G, East Carolina

McNeal averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 steals over the course of two games. She hit the game-winning shot to lift the Pirates over Memphis to end the week.

Tommisha Lampkin, Sr., F, North Texas

Lampkin averaged 19 points and 7.5 rebounds in wins over Temple and Florida Atlantic, including a 20-point, 10-rebound performance at Temple.

Destiny Jackson, 5th, G, Rice

Jackson helped lead the Owls to a pair of wins, which included hitting the game-winning layup as time expired at SMU.

Romi Levy, R-Jr., F, South Florida

Levy had a huge week, averaging 28 points, five assists and five rebounds for the Bulls. She had back-to-back career-high, including 32 points in the win over Tulane.

Elyssa Coleman, R-Jr., F, UTSA

Coleman averaged 21.5 points and 11.5 rebounds over two games for the Roadrunners. Against Wichita State, she had 32 points and 19 rebounds – both top ten marks in a single game in UTSA history.
