American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, January 26.

Player of the Week

Nina De Leon Negron, Gr., G, UTSA

De Leon Negron posted a near triple-double for the Roadrunners to help extend their winning streak to ten games. She scored 19 points, grabbed ten rebounds and dished out eight assists in the win over Tulsa. She shot 50 percent from the field in the win.

Freshman of the Week

Kendall Sneed, Fr., G, Tulane

Sneed scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting with three rebounds and two assists to lead the Green Wave to a road win over Temple.

Honorable Mention

Sara Bershers, Gr., F, UAB

Bershers led the Blazers to a 2-0 week, averaging 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and two assists.

Aniyah Johnson, Sr., F, North Texas

Johnson posted a double-double in the win over Florida Atlantic, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Dominique Ennis, Jr., G, Rice

Ennis scored 24 points in a road win over Charlotte, while grabbing eight rebounds. She averaged 19.5 points on the week.

Vittoria Blasigh, So., G, South Florida

Blasigh scored 19 points, including the go-ahead basket with one-second remaining to lead the Blazers past East Carolina.

Amira Mabry, Jr., F, Tulane

Mabry scored 19 points and came down with five rebounds in a road win at Temple.
