American Athletic Conference Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, September 24.

Offensive Player of the Week

Emma Clothier, Gr., MB, SMU

Clothier helped guide the Mustangs to a 3-0 start to conference play last week as the graduate middle blocker averaged 5.30 points per set and 4.20 kills per set while hitting .597 across three games.  She had double-digit kills in all three matches, including a week-high 17 kills against UTSA.

Defensive Player of the Week

Nia McCardell, Sr., L, Rice

McCardell anchored the Rice defense as the Owls began conference play with a 3-0 record.  The senior libero averaged 5.64 digs per set in wins over UAB and Tulsa. She had a week-high 33 digs in the first match against Tulsa, as the Owls edged the Golden Hurricane in five set to claim the win.

Weekly Honor Roll

Aleeyah Galdeira, Sr., DS/L, North Texas

Galdeira recorded double-digit digs in all three matches for the Mean Green, as North Texas began American play with a 3-0 record.

Sh’Diamond Holly, Sr., MB, North Texas

Holly averaged 3.45 points per set while hitting .556 for the Mean Green in wins over Florida Atlantic and Tulane.

Sahara Maruska, Sr., OH, Rice

Maruska finished the week with 3.95 points per set for the Owls, which included a 15 kill, 18 dig double-double in a five-set win over Tulsa.

Buse Hazan, So., OH, South Florida

Hazan set a career-high 21 kills in a three-set win over Memphis.  She finished with double-digit kills in all three matches on the week.

Natalie Foster, Jr., MB, Wichita State

The Shockers began conference play with a 2-0 record behind Foster’s attack. The middle finished with five points per set, while hitting .400 in wins over East Carolina and Charlotte.
