IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, February 23.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Yared Kidane, R-Jr., Wichita State
Kidane cruised in the 800-meter run to a new American record, completing the race with a time of 1:47.21, breaking the previous record set by Alvaro Chavez of UConn in 2014 (1:47.96). The time is currently the 25th best time in the nation.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Kobe Babin, Sr., South Florida
Babin set a new program record in pole vault, clearing 5.58 meters. It is currently the 13th best mark in the nation and the top mark in The American.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Kate Campos, So., Wichita State
Campos set a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles at the Arkansas Qualifier, completing the race in a time of 8.37 seconds.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Alicia Johnson, Sr., Charlotte
Johnson won the USC Invite pole vault with a mark of 4.07 meters. It is the second-best mark in The American this season.
