Actors’ Playhouse’ upcoming gala and auction

Actors’ Playhouse’ starry annual major fundraiser will, for the first time, occur virtually this year. However, that is unlikely to dim the event’s wattage. The shining stars who will perform are lined up. So, too, are the 200+ auction items on which you can start bidding immediately.

The 29th Annual Reach for the Stars Gala Auction will take place at 7 p.m. EST on Saturday, Sept. 12. The event is free of charge. To join, log onto www.youtube.com/ActorsPlayhouseCG. And to bid, visit www.actorsplayhouse.org.  Bidding will continue through 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Available items for bidding are extravagant voyages provided by Azamara, a trip to Espana courtesy of the Tourist Office of Spain, and a one-year lease for a 2021 Lexus RX 350. Also available are worldwide luxury travel and hotel packages, fine jewelry, golf packages, art, home decor, sports collectors’ items, spa visits, couture clothing, and gift certificates.  Donors have contributed the items on behalf of Actors’ Playhouse.

Meanwhile, renowned stars will seek to entertain viewers. The line up includes: International superstar Gloria Estefan; Tony Award-winning actress Rachel Bay Jones; stage, film, and TV star Danny Pino; Broadway Leading Lady Janet Decal; FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance finalist Gino Cosculluela; New York actor/singer Don Seward, and Actors’ Playhouse’s 2012 cast of Next to Normal.

Stars to Preform

But first, a pre-party mixologist presentation that will feature Bacardi’s signature “Airmail” cocktail will kick off the celebration at 6:45 p.m.

“The coronavirus has had a devastating economic impact on America’s arts sector,” playhouse staff wrote in a press release. “Actors’ Playhouse needs the community’s support now more than ever to keep the spotlights on for a bright future.”

Proceeds from this year’s event will go toward the non-profit Actors’ Playhouse’s operations during the post-pandemic recovery period. The gala and auction’s presenting sponsor is Lexus of Kendall.

Dr. Lawrence E. Stein founded the award-winning playhouse, which is “celebrating more than 32 years of artistic excellence. Executive Producing Director Barbara S. Stein and Artistic Director David Arisco lead the team. The playhouse, which formerly had a home in Kendall, takes up residence at the historic Miracle Theatre on Miracle Mile in downtown Coral Gables. The company produces five Mainstage and four professional Children’s Theater productions annually. Also, the company operates a year-round theater conservatory and summer camp program, educational arts outreach programs, and the Young Talent Big Dreams countywide youth talent contest, in partnership with The Children’s Trust.
