A new restaurant has opened in Downtown Hollywood. J & C Oyster recently opened.
The Cifuentes family, Cesar, his wife, and his sister Elisa Rooney, wanted to operate in Hollywood and so they found a location downtown.
“It just started with ‘how close can we be to the farmers market?'” Cesar said. “But I’ve always had a personal fascination with Harrison Street — I already had an office here. We wanted a beautiful neighborhood with unique restaurants and businesses and Harrison Street checks all those boxes. It’s very quaint and clean with unique shops. When the space became available, we took it.”
“At J&C, the focus is on oysters and seafood, but I wanted to be a little different, a high-end seafood restaurant. Chef Raheem had a vision to do some hot items that are not normally on a raw bar, so we added some amazing cooked dishes that are not traditionally found there.”
Their vision ultimately became an Asian-inspired, seafood-driven menu.
“That flavor profile worked for years at Oaxaka, so why not let’s go with it?” Cifuentes thought. “And when I said ‘Asian’, Chef Raheem said ‘Beautiful, that’s what I do.'”
Cifuentes noted that J&C’s Snapper Ceviche ($16) and Hamachi ($17) are two things that are unique, well-executed and showing up as two of the most popular dishes after oysters in the first week of business, but that so far, the #2 best-selling item is the Fried Chicken ($28)
