New pickleball courts dedicated in Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava led an official ribbon cutting ceremony for six new dedicated pickleball courts at Tamiami Park. The mayor was joined by Miami-Dade County District 11 Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez, Miami-Dade County Parks Director Maria I. Nardi, members of the local pickleball community, and park neighbors.
“I’m very proud of our Parks Department for always making sure our green and open spaces are up to date and ready to accommodate our community’s changing needs,” said County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “These new courts are a great addition to our wonderful parks system and will add even more quality of life for residents who love playing this popular sport.”
In 2021, pickleball grew to 4.8 million players in the U.S. – a 14.3% increase from 2020. Miami-Dade Parks continues to provide for the growing demand of the sport, as part of the Parks Department’s mission to create outstanding recreational experiences that enhance the community’s quality of life.
“Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in our community and we are excited to have these courts here in Tamiami Park,” said Commissioner Roberto J. Gonzalez. “The addition of pickleball courts ensures that Tamiami Park remains a central recreation destination for our residents.”
Tamiami Park is a 247-acre community park located in Commission District 11. The park houses the Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo Center, the famous Cuban Memorial Monument, and Miracle League Field. The park offers an array of amenities such as bike and walking paths, a playground, baseball/softball fields, basketball courts, a football field, soccer field, tennis courts, and a 22-lane heated Olympic-size swimming pool. Tamiami Park provides a variety of amenities that connects people with the natural environment, conduct social science research and planning, provide park volunteer opportunities for residents, cultivate community partnerships, and provide park visitors of all ages opportunities to learn more about their natural and cultural heritage.
“We are excited to celebrate the installation of pickleball courts at Tamiami Park that expand outdoor recreational opportunities for Miami-Dade County residents,” said Director Maria Nardi. “We look forward to having the community enjoy these wonderful amenities.”
