Pompano Beach will celebrate Martin Luther King’s legacy with a parade

The City of Pompano Beach will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s legacy on Monday, January 16th, with a parade and celebration!

The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. at Blanche Ely High School located at 1201 NW 6 Avenue. The parade route will head west on NW 10th Street, south on NW 8th Avenue, East on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, south on NW 3rd Avenue, west on NW 15th Street, south on NW 6th Avenue, east on NW 10th Street, and ends at Mitchell Moore Park 901 NW 10th Street.

Organizations from the community, including City officials, churches, local businesses, fraternities and sororities, etc. will march together representing Dr. King’s six principles of non-violence.

The celebration will begin immediately following the parade at Mitchell Moore Park located at 901 NW 10th Street with live entertainment, a kid’s zone and food for purchase.


Pompano Beach offers Florida Ready to Work location

The City of Pompano Beach is now a Florida Ready to Work proctor location for its residents providing training and credentialing of the foundational and transferable employability skills required for most jobs in Florida.

The training is self-directed, self-paced, and accessible from any computer or tablet, any place, anytime, 24/7.

This program is broad based. It’s for any level and any person. Those who successfully complete the program earn the Florida Work Ready Credential and the Florida Soft Skills Credential. Both credentials are signed by the Governor and are recognized as a common measure of foundational skill readiness for most jobs across industry sectors. Participants must pass four, one-hour proctored assessments validating mastery of skill that correlate with the U.S. Department of Labor O*NET Job Zones, the nation’s primary source of occupational data.

In-person help is available at the Job Seeker Orientation on the 2nd Monday of every month now until September 11th, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the E. Pat Larkins Community Center located at 520 Dr MLK, Jr. Boulevard.
