Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava celebrated county departments that were recently presented with a total of 75 awards by the National Association of Counties (NACO).
The County received at least three “Best in Category” awards for the following initiatives and programs:
- The Information Technology Department (ITD) Geospatial Technologies Division won “Best in Category” in the Information Technology category for its work in the aftermath of the Surfside condominium collapse.
- The Miami-Dade Economic Advocacy Trust (MDEAT) won “Best in Category” award in the Libraries category for its “First Fridays Business Breakfast” series of workshops that were conducted onsite at black-owned businesses and provided attendees with information on free resources and empowered underserved communities to overcome educational, economic, business, and employment barriers.
- The Miami-Dade Public Library System won “Best in Category” award in the Volunteers category for its “Virtual Volunteering at the Public Library for Community Service Credit” that offered young students the opportunity to do volunteer hours virtually during the pandemic.
“Our county departments knocked it out of the park again with this year’s outstanding recognition from NACO,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Miami-Dade County works to deliver excellence to our residents and visitors every single day, and these awards celebrate the massive success that our county employees have had in fulfilling that mission with innovative and effective service delivery. Miami-Dade has some of the most dedicated, creative, and brilliant employees, who work tirelessly to improve the lives of those who live, work, and play in our community.”
Other awards include:
- Signature initiatives led by Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, such as the “Values-Based Procurement,” the “Peace and Prosperity Plan,” and “No Wrong Door,” also received awards in their respective categories.
- The Communications and Customer Experience Department (CCED) received two awards in the Civic Education and Public Information category for its human trafficking awareness and domestic violence during COVID-19 campaigns, and one in the Information Technology category for its COVID-19 testing site finder
- The county’s Office of Resilience received a NACO Achievement award in the Resiliency category for the Building Efficiency 305 program to enhance energy and water efficiency in large existing buildings across Miami-Dade County.
