Hollywood support Food Waste Prevention Week

The City of Hollywood is once again teaming up with multiple agencies and organizations in support of “Food Waste Prevention Week,” which this year runs Monday, April 4th through Saturday, April 9th. The mission of Food Waste Prevention Week is to raise awareness and inspire all to reduce food waste in the home, workplace and in our community. Up to 35% of all food produced goes uneaten and up to 40% of all food waste occurs in the home, even when 1 in 5 Floridians lack consistent access to nutritious foods. It saves money. By reducing food waste, a family of four can save an average of $1,800 per year. It conserves resources in areas such as water, energy and human resources are all used to grow, package and transport food.Safe and nutritious food that is currently thrown away could be used to help feed others.

In celebration of Food Waste Prevention Week, all are invited to participate in a number of activities including a social media bingo game for a chance to win great prizes, K-12 student engagement contests, invention marathons, challenges, and presentations with special guests including celebrated local chefs. It all leads up to “Save the Food Fest ‘22” at Snyder Park in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, April 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Planned activities include:
