The Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management’s (DSWM) Waste Management Fund has once again been recognized with the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The certificate was awarded to DSWM for the Waste Management Enterprise Fund’s annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2020.
“Congratulations to the Solid Waste Management team for this important recognition. It speaks volumes about the values that guide your work and your service to our community,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
“We’re proud that for the 27th year in a row, GFOA has honored us for our transparency and accountability towards the precious resources our customers have entrusted to us,” said Michael Fernandez, DSWM Director. “My hat’s off to our Financial Reporting staff for their hard work, as well as to our management team and all of the hardworking men and women of DSWM.”
The ACFR was judged by a panel of impartial experts to meet extremely high standards, including “demonstrating a constructive spirit of disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.”
According to GFOA, “the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”
The DSWM provides waste and recycling services to residents in the unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County and several municipalities, as well as mosquito control services countywide.
