Hollywood welcomes people back to public buildings

From David Volz

The City of Hollywood is welcoming people back to public buildings.

As of Monday, June 14, 2021, public access to City Hall and City facilities has resumed. Masks remain recommended for the general public and required for City staff while inside City facilities. In a continuing effort to help stop the spread of COVID-19, residents are still encouraged to use the City’s online services to conduct business and utilize the drive through window at City Hall to pay bills and fees. The Building Department’s QLess Check-In Service should also be used to reserve your space in line before entering City Hall.

Coral Springs to change chlorinating method

The City of Coral Springs Utilities & Engineering Division, Royal Waterworks, Coral Springs Improvement District, and the North Springs Improvement District will temporarily change its method of chlorinating water to comply with recommendations from the Department of Environmental Protection. As a result, within the two-week period, you may notice a chlorine taste or odor in your tap water. Water main flushing will also take place during this period between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. As a result of fire hydrant flushing, a temporary discoloration of the water and a reduction in pressure may occur. Work will begin on July 15 and run through July 29.

The flushing program serves two important functions. First, it minimizes the build-up of mineral and other sediments, which over time affect water quality and water flow. Secondly, it allows water departments to verify fire hydrants are in proper working order for vital fire protection.

These temporary conditions should not be harmful to your health. However, customers are cautioned to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes. Customers are also advised to set aside water for drinking and cooking purposes, and check water clarity before use. If you experience discolored water, run the cold water in all your faucets for approximately 5-10 minutes. If conditions persist, please contact your water provider at the number listed below. Additionally, if you are on kidney dialysis, please consult your physician for any special instructions concerning this matter.

All Broward children can get a free food package on Tuesdays

Broward County Public Schools will provide all young people an opportunity to obtain a nutritious meal during the summer on Tuesdays.  The district’s Food and Nutrition Services Department will distribute free meal packages to children each Tuesday. There will be curbside pickup. Meal packages are available to all children 18 years old or younger. The children don’t have to attend a Broward School.

Also, drivers may have noticed and increase in gas prices. Currently the price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is up to $2.97 an increase of 95 cents from last year and 44 cents in 2019. There is more demand for gasoline as more people return to work and more people drive to visit friends and businesses.
