Maha Amer joins the Gators Swim and Dive team after four years at the University of Arkansas.
Amer is a native to Cairo, Egypt and has represented Egypt in the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 3-meter springboard competition.
At the University of Arkansas, she competed for three years and redshirted the 2019-20 season. She will have two years of eligibility left once she arrives at Florida.
Amer was a top eight SEC diver for three consecutive years, is a NCAA All-American, was on the SEC Honor Roll (2018, 2019, 2020) and was named to the Scholar All-America Team in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Amer was a part of the World Championships in 2017 and 2019 and the World Cup in 2016 and 2020. In 2016, she competed at the Junior World Championships as well.
At the last SEC Championships, she placed sixth on the 1-meter springboard, seventh on the 3-meter springboard, and eighth on the platform.
“We are very excited to be adding Maha to our roster,” said diving coach Bryan Gillooly<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_coaches.aspx-3Frc-3D1263&d=DwIFAg&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=o-5MhE17DXTf5IPqxVvxd7-zZJYqz2PW_zqnVB-WoAQ&s=01Yo7oUaIzyu7muT9FUZAognz3jLmvTrEjB6MV-35Lk&e= >. “Coming from Arkansas and being in the SEC I am very familiar with her diving and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with her. She is an excellent competitor with tons of great experience. Her work ethic is tremendous and she will fill the void left by last year’s SEC diver of the year Ashley McCool<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D13993&d=DwIFAg&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=o-5MhE17DXTf5IPqxVvxd7-zZJYqz2PW_zqnVB-WoAQ&s=QmAgazO7sS-VUiMnsUgCTnqhmxZDGZM6UuKHp4XYmLE&e= >. I really expect her to jump right in as a team leader in the pool and in the classroom.”
